NaPhoBoMo – What a funny word.
For those you “in the know” you will understand that NaPhoBoMo is a new, and local, photography initiative that is striving to get photographers to be more creative.
National Photo Book Month (NaPhoBoMo) is the brain child of Andy Berdan (@twitch) a local London photographer. Taking the concept behind National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWrioMo) and National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo) that is essentially about being creative each and every day for an entire month (November), NaPhoBoMo puts a new pin on this concept using the adage “a picture is worth a thousand words“.
NaWriNoMo is about writing 50 000 words in a month, and as such NaPhoBoMo is about taking (at least) 50 picture in a month and creating a photo book from it. Do the math, it works out.
With that said, here are the “official rules” from the NaPhoBoMo website.
A photographer’s take on NaNoWriMo, the goal is to produce a 50-picture photobook in a month, from start to finish. This includes taking the photos, creating layout, editing for content, post-processing, all of it. In 30 days.
Q: What do I do?
A: Make a photo book with the following restrictions:
- All pictures must be taken in the month of November.
- All layout, editing, and post-processing must also be done during the month of November.
- The deadline for a final PDF is November 30th, at midnight.
- The final book must have at least 50 pictures.
- Post progress and completion at the NaPhoBoMo Site
Q: Why 50?
A: NaNoWriMo’s goal is 50,000 words. And a picture is worth 1000 words.
Q: How do I join?
A: You can head on over to http://naphobomo.com/submit and tell us what you will be doing. Include your name, email, website and twitter pages (if you have them) and we will be sure to add you to the site.
Q: Who’s responsible for this craziness?
A: NaPhoBoMo was created by Andrew Berdan.
With that said I am participating in this month long project and I am very excited about it. I have decided to pick something fairly easy to complete, as this is the first time around for it and I am not sure what to expect. Having tried to complete both NaWriNoMo and NaBloPoMo in the past I have found that its hard for me to write that many words each and every day, photography on the other hand is an entirely different story.
With that said, this in November 1st and NaPhoBoMo has begun. I know its short notice but I think this is an easy project to get started and to will be fun to complete. We look forward to seeing what some of the London Photo Walkers might be able to produce.
