Here at the London Photo Walk we are happy to announce that Dana Dobbie is the winner of the LOLAfest Photo Contest that was run during last month’s photo walk. Dana took a number of fantastic images depicting the arts and entertainment at LOLAfest. Check out some of her images over on her Flickr Stream.
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day (weather wise) for this past Saturday’s London Photo Walk. Although there were some last minute changes 25 local photo walkers made it out to explore London’s Fanshawe Pioneer Village.
Although the Village is typically closed at this time of year, the London Photo Walk was lucky enough to get a private guided tour of the Village from a very kind staff member.
Learning about the heritage of the buildings and of South Western Ontario in general, those in attendance for this photo walk were treated to not only interesting architectural sights but the colours and beauty that the fall weather brings.
The Village was covered in yellow, red and orange leaves which only helped to enhance it’s natural beauty and make for almost ideal photography conditions. Although there was a slight breeze it added to the atmosphere and helped with the creation of interesting shots.
It is without a doubt that the London Photo Walk will be returning to Fanshawe Pioneer Village when spring arrives (and again in the fall) to see the Village when it is full with activity, workers and visitors.
If you have any ideas of suggestions of where you would like to go and explore for an upcoming photo walk please share your ideas with us.
Oh, and I would be denying everyone the pleasure if I did not mention the following. Edward Platero too the time to not only take some amazing shots at this photo walk but also put together a video which I think illustrates the beauty that we all experienced this past Saturday. Thanks for this Edward.
London Photowalk has now been operating for SEVEN! Months, yes SEVEN! over half a year now! London is a great and lovely place to explore, and we want to explore it more! We have lots of ideas on where to hold photowalks but we want some of your ideas too. Provide us with some ideas on where you would like to go for your next photowalk. Don’t worry about any logistics(like being allowed on certain properties) we will take care of that.
When thinking about a place to submit please consider a spot that is easily accessible by bus, and what time of year it would look best to go there. Also please suggest near by meet and greet spots to have a bit to eat and drink after wards.
We look forward to hearing back from you, and look for the next walk information soon!
P.S. I almost forgot we want to hear your photowalk stories! Send them to us at news [at] londonphotowalk [dot] ca and it could be posted to the blog!
There has been a slight change of plans for today’s photo walk. I just got word that the gate that was suppose to be open apparently isn’t. Because of this we have to enter into the park off of Fanshawe Park Road.
Please see the map below. If you need more details please call 519-871-9052 (Kevin’s cell)
Because we have a guide for our walk and are on a tight schedule we will not be able to wait for late comers.
With that said, please arrive between 9:30-9:45am to ensure that you can participate on the walk.
We will also be announcing the winner to the LOLAfest Photo Contest and announcing exciting news about a Full Time sponsors for the London Photo Walk. You won’t want to miss this.
Now that fall has arrived I feel it fit to write all of you a little post on getting the best colours out of your camera this fall. A lot of this is mere point form, and if you would like more information just leave a comment.
Get out early! or late depending on your shooting location. The sun rises around 730am and gets to an amazing colour point at about 8am, and rises in ESE. Getting out early will shine a golden light on the trees and the reds and oranges will become more vibrant and the greens will dim down a bit focusing on the fall colours.
Bundle Up! – Its fall, and when that sun isn’t up yet it is darn cold!
Bring a tri-pod. You will be shooting in the best light of the day, but it is still low light, which requires you to use a tripod for a nice sharp shot. If you plan on shooting HDR(High Dynamic Range) a tri-pod is an absolute must!
The Settings. This is often the hardest part for most entry level photographers to get right, and secrectly its the hard part for every photographer because it is always changing. So here is what I do.
