Last Saturday found not only the London Ontario Live Arts (LOLA) Festival taking place but the sixth installment of the London Photo Walk, both taking place in downtown London. We thought that it might be appropriate to combine the two events and plan the photo route around the “art installations” that were suppose to be located around the downtown.
Overall the walk was a good time , a turnout of about 15 people with a few new faces made up our crew which headed down Richmond Street from Victoria Park, towards the John Labatt Centre and back up to the Central Library.
The focus of the walk was not only to be Downtown at night but the LOLA art installations as well. In past years LOLAfest had a number of different light and art installations in the Downtown core to coincide with the music at Victoria Park and we hoped that the same thing would happen for this year. Needless to say we (or at least I) were disappointed with the art showing downtown. One of the installations was un-active and the others were nothing more than very very faint projections on brick walls. These in no way live up to what I experienced in the past. But alas, the walk continued and we had a great time.
The walk culminated in Victoria Park where everyone was able to take in the various visual installations in the park, the highlight of (which I think many people would admit) was Dave Dyment‘s Sidereal Time Installation. Images were captured of people playing with the lights and of the musical acts that took stage that night.
Even with the disappointment of the downtown art installations this walk with still a success. With a great turnout, new faces and a fantastic atmosphere in Victoria Park I think everyone had a great time.
Check out the images from the night at the London Photo Walk Flickr Pool.
Stay tuned to www.londonphotowalk.ca for details on the next photo walk. For now make note on your calendar of October 24th, 2009 10am-12pm at Fanshawe Pioneer Village.

Museum London along with the London Arts Council have teamed up to offer an unconference centred around social media for the arts to be held Saturday November 14, 2009
For those unfamiliar with the term unconference, an unconference is an event where most of the day’s content comes from the participants and the participants alone. All attendees are welcome to present on any topic that they think would benefit their fellow unconference goers.
Organized by Bill Deys and Titus Ferguson, (organizers of the highly successful PodCamp London) SMarts London hopes to offer the following to the vast arts community of London, Ontario and surrounding regions:
SMArts London will be a free “unconference” that will feature a full-day of sessions and discussions that seeks to connect artists (performing arts (theatre, dance, performance), visual (fine arts, photography, painting, etc.), multimedia (film & video, computer) and academic/curatorial artistic communities), art administrators and art dealers with the social media practitioners and enthusiasts who can help them understand the value, potential and benefits of new media.

Many of you whom participate in the London Photo Walk on a monthly basis may find an unconference such as SMarts to be a very beneficial experience. Learning about and contributing to ways in which new media can be used in order to establish and promote yourself as an artist could be a great benefit to anyone.
I urge you to check out the SMarts London website for more details. If you are interested in attending the event on Saturday November 14, 2009 at Museum London then head on over to sign up for FREE.
