Lens Lenders

Lens Lenders is a great local (London, Ontario) service which allows Nikon and Canon users to rent various lenses and flashes at very affordable rates right over the Internet.  With fast shipping and handling included its a great way to either test out a potential purchase or to be creative with a different style of lens.

Here at the London Photo Walk we are also happy to announce that Lens Lenders is an official Sponsor It’s Time to Wake Up to Westminister! — LOPW #5.

After a very successful turnout to the World Wide Photo walk held in the morning, we have decided to go with the morning again! Many of the professional photographers will already know why the morning is great for shooting. For those who don’t, the morning sunrise provides a much softer and less harsh light– with Digital Photography light is very important– but too much light can ruin a photo so… It’s Time to Wake Up to Westminister!

This walk is more of a photo “excursion” as we will be covering a fairly large open area, and some may walk off into the paths. This is a great time to stop and ask some questions about how to use your camera to get the shot you want! Just ask myself (James Wilkinson) and I would be glad to help you out! So here are the details of our next walk:

World Wide Photo Walk: Success!!!

20090718_WWPW_0006

The day has gone and past but the memories of it live on through imagery.

This past Saturday saw 50 total strangers (for the most part) gathering together to explore and photograph downtown London, Ontario as part of the World Wide Photo Walk.  With the largest gathering of people that the London Photo Walk had seen as of yet, participants divided up into two camps and headed North or South in search of what makes London, Ontario a great city.

After two hours of walking, talking and photographing, participants met up at a local restaurant for some food, drinks and more conversations.

All in all the day was an overwhelming success and I think that everyone would agree that things couldn’t have been any better.  But don’t take my word for it, check out what Pat Dryburgh (a first time photo walker) and David Redding (a 3-peat photo walk veteran) had to say about the day and how it unfolded.

Once again we would like to thank all of the local businesses that graciously donated prizes to make this day that much more exciting.  Without Orchestra London, Museum London, Stan C. Reade, Lens Lenders, Mainstreet London, Attic Books, Friday Knight Lights or Novacks we wouldn’t have been able to make this day as much as a success as it was.

If you attended the walk make sure to upload your photos to Flickr (its free to sign up for an account) and add your photos to the London Photowalk Group.  You might also want to tag your photos with lopw, wwpw, skphoto so that people searching can easily find them as well.  Uploading your photos to Flickr has nothing to do with the prizes for the official World Wide Photo Walk (see post below for that information), rather, this is just a way to share your experience from the day with everyone else.

Make sure to keep an eye out here at www.londonphotowalk.ca for more details on out monthly gatherings.  Usually held every month at various locations across the city, the London Photo Walk is a fantastic way to get out and explore the City of London through photography and walking.

Yesterday’s World Wide Photo Walk was a complete success partly due to the great sponsors we had.  Donating prizes allowed for all participants (registered or not) to be eligible to win something.

We were lucky enough to have the London Downtown Business Association (LDBA) /Mainstreet London supporting this great photography/community based event.

LDBA is the London Downtown Business Association,  an incorporated organization which represents merchants and property owners within an area designated by the City of London under the Ontario Business Improvement Act. The LDBA is funded by a levy collected by the city and the volunteer elected LDBA board acts as a board of management.

The LDBA is interested in the retention of business in the downtown core. To do this, it works to ensure a clean, safe, attractive and vibrant environment in the downtown area. It promotes and supports projects in the arts, entertainment, residential development, transportation and business development within the core area.

MainStreet London is a not-for-profit, independently incorporated organization whose aim is the recruitment of new business, office and residential projects which ultimately serve to revitalize the downtown core. MainStreet London Revitalization Organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

MainStreet conducts a variety of programs and special initiatives designed to improve the downtown and get more feet on the streets, for the benefit of downtown merchants and property owners.

Once again a thank you must go out to London Downtown Business Association (LDBA) /Mainstreet London for their support of this event, the day wouldn’t have been the same without you or any other of the fantastic sponsors we had. (see sidebar —–> for complete list of sponsors)
