It’s Time to Wake Up to Westminister! — LOPW #5
After a very successful turnout to the World Wide Photo walk held in the morning, we have decided to go with the morning again! Many of the professional photographers will already know why the morning is great for shooting. For those who don’t, the morning sunrise provides a much softer and less harsh light– with Digital Photography light is very important– but too much light can ruin a photo so… It’s Time to Wake Up to Westminister!
This walk is more of a photo “excursion” as we will be covering a fairly large open area, and some may walk off into the paths. This is a great time to stop and ask some questions about how to use your camera to get the shot you want! Just ask myself (James Wilkinson) and I would be glad to help you out! So here are the details of our next walk:
Date: Saturday, August 15th, 2009
Time: 7am – 9am
Location: Westminister Ponds, London, Ontario. (See map for directions)
Meeting Spot & Route: We will be meeting inside of the Westminister Ponds area. There are many run down buildings here to take photos of, and a couple of walking paths to go down to the other ponds for nature photos.
After: We will be meeting up at Shelly’s just outside of the ponds on Wellington Road, beside the Lamplighter Inn.
Special Instructions:
We ask that you please look at the map closely for a couple of reasons
- Find where to park! – We would like to keep all of the old buildings as clear as possible for everyone’s photos.
- Where the ponds are!
- How to drive into the ponds area, or walk in from your local bus stop
- Where Shelly’s is located to go to afterwards (If you are driving please lend a seat to the non-drivers if you can)
- So we don’t miss you, come out and have fun!
Extra Special Instructions
As Shelly’s is a restaurant we would like everyone who plans on attending to REGISTER for this walk. This is to provide the restaurant with an estimate of how many seats we will need, and get them set aside for us.
Sponsors:
We are always actively looking for sponsors, if you would like to sponsor this walk or know of a business that would like to sponsor us, please read/have them read the following post: Sponsors Wanted!
We look forward to seeing everyone out bright-eyed and bushy tailed! Its Time for Westminister!

Lens Lenders will be happy to contribute a $1 one-week lens rental of the winner’s choice as a “door prize” to the August photo walk! (The $1 is needed to verify the renter’s identity & address through a credit card.)
Ok who do I have to curse for picking a 7am photowalk? Well I’ll see if anyone else from the Photoroam group in K-W wants to keep me awake on the drive down.
Oh lol, Well I thought of doing afternoon then lunch at mandarin, then we relaized the sun is better in the morning in the south, so i thought lunch, then we remembered the sun is evil at 10, so we went to 7!
Noted just now that the walk for Aug. 15 says start at 7 a.m. but on the map area says 6 a.m. What is the correct time please?
Thanks,
Scott
The time is 7am. Where does it say 6am so I can fix it.
James, it was on the photowalk google map on Kevin’s website yesterday. If you click on the icon to enlarge the map on google maps, so that the written menu comes up on the left hand side of the page, and scroll down, there are two walks listed for August 15. Both yesterday said 6 A.M. start, tonight one now says 7 a.m. and the one below it says 6 a.m.
Thanks,
Scott
This was a killer idea to go to this location for this “walk.” I actually didn’t end up walking too much because I kept getting distracted by the buildings.
I’ll definitely be returning very very soon. I’m photographing a couple people on sunday and thinking that was a sweet location for it. so awesome.
I will probably slowly post the photos into flickr and my 1 love london photoblog – http://www.1lovelondon.com.
Sadly I probably won’t make the sept photowalk due to a friends wedding.
Thanks guys, it was a good morning!
Hey guys!
Thanks so much for organizing this. It was amazing, and I look forward to doing it again. I should be able to make the walk in September too.
In the meantime, I would love if you would take a look at the shots I took yesterday as well the other stuff up on my photo blog.

Cheers!
That was a great walk, despite James getting some of us lost and ending up almost half way across London (ok, I exaggerate a bit. Can’t wait to see all the shots from this one! Thanks James and Kevin for getting these together!
Kailey, your link doesn’t work….gives me a “404 not found”.
