This a free city wide self guided garden tour throughout the entire city. I am currently looking for 48 more gardens to register to meet my goal of 100 available gardens to show off in the city! There is every type of garden available, from a small container upper deck garden, to a fifty acre farm on sunningdale road east at adelaide!

This is the third year, register your garden, invite your neighbors or your work place to register their garden, or if you see or know of a garden that needs to be shared shoot me an email with contact information or address and i will go beg them to join the fun!

I am also looking for amateur photographers to shoot photos of all the registered gardens. The photos become the property of garden gates open and communities in bloom to share and use for future events. The photos are also uploaded to a shutterfly share site the participants can make photo books of their photos, or just go view the other gardens! last year i had 2800 photos from 11 photographers added to the shutterfly share, then hosted a tea party this past spring to invite the gardeners to come view the photos. the social networking and gardening connections from this amazing, only one of its kind event in all of Canada has been truly unbelievable!

send me an email if you would like to be one of hte official photographers for the event, we have no rules and no regulations other than i would like to have about thirty photos of each garden for sharing and using for future marketing etc.

If you are looking for a great way to see the city and scout new locations , the maps will be available in the next couple of weeks to plan your route on one day or both!

I would love to photograph the gardens.
One of these days I’ll volunteer my garden, but since I have been in London only 17 months, it has a little more work to do before I feel it’s ready for the public!
Fortunately the hardscaping was all done & I need only create the flowering spaces. This fall, the remaining half of the front yard loses its grass under layers of newspapers & triple mix, ready for planting in the spring.

        rikie,

how cool…the story behind garden gates open is that they are everyday gardens by everyday people, and ready right now. i love that we have had the garden tour for three years, and we have had several peeople in all three and their gardens are just evolving! it is amazing. the other cool thing i have done is set up a google plant exchange group for us to all share our plants, inspiration, social things etc.

send me an email at trees4oev@yahoo.ca and i will send you the details of our meeting for photographers…thanks so much for volunteering!

The maps will be available at each garden stop on the tour this weekend. I was hoping the http://www.londoncib.ca web page would have already posted the map but it has not been posted as of yet! the printed version will be availabe later this week, and i have a web page that i created that has the list but no map. It is at http://gardengatesopen.webs.com/ . i am by no means a computer person but the basic information is available and links to other sites etc.

Thank you so much for the wonderful compliments! I am really thrilled this year to have so many unbelieveable and so very ordinary gardens..all right here at home!! the tour will be marvelous. The photos from last year are stored on the shutterfly share link that you will find on the web page as well i will be starting one for 2010.

    Enjoy

for those attending hte garden gates open on the weekend, there was a massive printing problem and the newer addresses did not get updated prior to printing. i am so very sorry to all for the inconvenience and annoyance of it all. the London Free Press has graciously offered to print the list in Saturday free press, i am not sure which section! there is also a good list on my own web page, no flash, no maps, nothing fancy just the facts!

Thank you to all who got out and enjoyed the photo opportunity with Garden GAtes Open! what a huge success despite the monumentally huge failure of hte map situation! I was amazed at every single stop, and i made just over 30 stops on the weekend, how exceptional each and every garden was! from one end of the city to the other and all parts in between!

thank you so very much to Chris Baldwin and Kathryn Ash for being official photographers for my event, and to those who got out and got great shots, if you want to submit them to the gardens let me know and i will get you a jump stick and we will upload and share them….thank you again! next year garden gates open will be July 23 and 24th, mark your calenders!
